FAQ

The Season 3 of the tournament will take place on October 25, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at Austin Sports Center - Central, 425 Woodward St, Austin, TX 78704.

We have planned for 8 teams, but the final number will depend on how many people sign up.

The registration deadline is September 25, 2026.

The fee is $35, and you can pay via Venmo at @Tournament-threevthree. If prompted for the last 4 digits of the phone number, enter: 7962. Include "3v3" in the description.

The 8 teams are randomly split into two groups of 4. Each team plays all the other teams in their group, so every team is guaranteed at least 3 games. The top 2 teams from each group advance to the semifinals, followed by the finals and the third-place game.

The bracket will be available on the home page. Once all teams are signed up and drafted, the full team list will be posted on the Teams page.

There will be one referee per game.

Players will be grouped based on skill level to ensure balanced teams. Teams will then be formed randomly from these groups to maintain fairness.

Each team has 4 players.

Yes, players can be substituted at any time as long as play is not actively happening (whether or not your team has possession). You don't need to check in with the ref - just make the substitution whenever the play is paused.

Since team names are based on colors, we ask that each player brings a t-shirt in their team's color. This helps keep the tournament fee low by avoiding additional uniform costs.

If you don't have a t-shirt in your team's color, please let us know! We may be able to arrange for a borrowed shirt.

In the case that two teams have very similar colors (e.g., Purple and Blue), we will provide pinnies to distinguish the teams. We'll ensure everyone is clearly identifiable for a smooth and fun game.

Games are 15 minutes long, with a 10-minute break between each game.

The opposing team gets the ball and must check it at the top of the 3-point line before resuming play. The ball must be passed to a teammate after the check - the player checking the ball cannot start dribbling right away.

We'll ask who wants to shoot for the ball. One player will take a 3-point shot, and if they make it, their team gets the first possession.

Yes. After any change in possession (such as a rebound, steal, or turnover), the ball must be taken back to the 3-point line.

Yes, each team has one 30-second timeout per game.

If the game ends in a tie, we will play an additional 2 minutes. The first possession will be determined by a 3-point shot, and the game will end after the 2 minutes.

If two or more teams finish with the same record, ties are broken in this order:
1. Head-to-head result (for 2-team ties)
2. Point differential among tied teams (for 3-team ties)
3. Total point differential (all group games)
4. Total points scored (all group games)
5. Free throw shootout (one player from each team)

Shots inside the 3-point line are worth 1 point, and shots beyond the 3-point line are worth 2 points.

Free throws are awarded after shooting fouls.
Fouls made beyond the 3-point line result in 2 free throws.
Each free throw is worth 1 point.
After a free throw (made or missed), the other team gets the ball and must check it at the top of the 3-point line.

We will provide game balls, but you are welcome to bring your own for warm-ups.

The gym does not allow outside food and drinks, but we will keep you updated if they approve it.
